Description: The Instructor I course is designed to enable a student to teach a class from a prepared lesson plan. It prepares you to instruct the TARS basic squad level courses on Vehicle Extrication. Separate modules are offered for Vanessa K. Free, EVOC and Bloodborne Pathogens, and if attended with in 1 year of the initial Instructor class the additional discipline class fee is offered at half price. Concepts of learning, communication skills, generations, instructor roles and responsibilities, teaching techniques, and the use of instructional materials are also subject areas included.

Prequisites: Must be registered and all prerequisite information sent in prior to class. Each student will receive a copy of the Extrication Program upon completion and certification of the class.
PREREQUISITES:
- Must have a letter of recommendation signed by the head of their department.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
- Must have been a member of an emergency organization for three years.
- Students shall have been certified in squad level extrication courses within the last two years.
- Must have current Certification in First Aid, First Responder or higher medical level training.
- Shall have attended Advanced Extrication, Heavy Rescue or Mass Transit Rescue within the last 4 years
- Proof of all prerequisites must be turned in to the TARS State office at the time of registration.
FAILURE TO TURN IN ALL PREREQUISITES TO THE STATE OFFICE TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE CLASS, WILL CAUSE YOU TO BE DISMISSED FROM THE CLASS. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS.
(All requirements must be met two weeks prior to the beginning of the class in order to be considered as an Instructor Candidate.)

As part of the Instructor I for Vehicle Extrication course participants must provide and utilize the following equipment:
NFPA-compliant turnout gear preferred or extrication jumpsuit
protective helmet
protective gloves extrication-specific gloves highly preferred
eye protection
hard-soled boots
Rescue tools are provided.
Class starts at 6:00 pm CST Friday evening.
NOTICE TO ALL INSTRUCTOR CANDIDATES
As of March 25th 2011 the following changes have been implemented.
As an Vehicle Extrication Instructor for TARS you are required to teach and turn in appropriate fees and paperwork to the state office for at least one class every two years after becoming an instructor. Any instructor that does not teach a class within this two year window will be DISMISSED as an instructor from TARS. As an instructor you are required to attend re-certification class every two years. Classes that are taught and not turned along with appropriate fees to the State Office are not certified and are not valid classes.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL REGISTRATIONS RECEIVED TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE CLASS WILL BE AT REGULAR LISTED PRICING. ALL REGISTRATIONS RECEIVED DURING THE TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE CLASS MUST ADD AN ADDITIONAL 20.00 FEE PER STUDENT TO THE ADVERTISED PRICING.
